KallioNYC
To start off your weekend, we’ve got the cutest Maker Spotlight ever! Meet KallioNYC – a kids’ clothing company specializing in transforming reclaimed clothing into an adorable wardrobe for children.
Karina Kallio, the creator behind the brand started KallioNYC in 2012 with a vision: to create a eco-conscious line of children’s clothing that is fun, stylish and unexpected. Not only are these outfits fun and stylish – they look extremely comfortable and playful.
If you wish these clothes were made for grown-ups, you’re not alone. We love the oversized silhouettes and pockets on these denim dresses!
Karina’s idea takes pre-loved vintage clothing which is then re-constructed and re-sewn and given new life. This reclamation leaves nothing to be wasted. Previous generations of clothing is re-imagined into one-of-a-kind styles for the next generation.
Makers that create visionary ways to re-purpose the old and neglected into something new and youthful is always inspiring. KallioNYC takes old men’s shirts and restructures them into kids’ clothing that is durable, environmentally friendly, and of course, cute.
Karina offered a sneak peek into the KallioNYC studio. We love seeing where our makers find inspiration and work.
We are so excited that Karina will be joining us for our first-ever Brooklyn Mini Market next Sunday!
Be sure to see the full line of KallioNYC clothing plus follow her on Twitter and Facebook keep up to date on all things adorable. See you all in Brooklyn on May 18th!
